Many small business owners and entrepreneurs think that having a website is all they need to start generating profits.

There’s a belief that if you have a website that people will come. It’s just like in the movie Field of Dreams“If you build it, they will come”. The problem is, running a business and a website isn’t like the movie at all.  

You can build a great website, but there’s no guarantee that they will come.

For many companies, a website can be a highly profitable asset. However, if nobody knows that you have a website, if nobody can find you, then it’s just like building a lemonade stand in the middle of the desert.

They miss the most important part (in my opinion) which is the marketing strategy to get traffic — to get people, real people, who need what you have to offer — to your website.

Unless you hire an SEO expert, or you  personally are extremely good at search engine optimization, odds are that you’re not going to show up in the search engines.

I believe that every business should make sure that they have good search engine optimization done to their website. It’s not enough just to have a beautiful website designed with all of the pictures that offer things that make your company unique. You want to make sure that your website is optimized to get organic search traffic from the Internet.

 

But that’s not enough.

 

You need attention.

 

That’s what marketing is.

 

Attention.

 

If you’re in a situation where your website feels like that lemonade stand in the middle of the desert (you know you have something great, you know people need it, but nobody knows where you are), then what you need is simply attention.

Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been in business for a long time, anyone can successfully use advertising to get more traffic to their website. It’s only when you start having consistent traffic to your website that your website actually becomes a business asset.

One of the fastest ways to do that is by providing value through creating good content.

Odds are, you are an expert in your field. You know more than the average person. You understand why your ideal prospect would need your service or your product. If only they could come to your site, then surely they would buy.

 

So how do you get them there?

 

 

One simple way to get started is to create blog posts around frequently asked questions (FAQs) for buying or doing business with you.

Let’s say you have 10 FAQs. You can create one great article for each question. Then, if you really want to get attention and people to your website, take each article, and one at a time, run a boosted post on Facebook.

Even if you only have a small budget, by running a targeted boosted post, you can start to get the attention and the traffic to your website that your business deserves.
